Two wonderful stays in the Salthill Hotel My wife and I had a 3-night stay in the Salthill Hotel during the Galway Comedy festival. We had chosen room only stay because we knew we would be in town all day each day visiting friends and our son who is in University of Galway. As below, it was our second time staying in the hotel this year and it was "top notch" again. While we had plenty of rain during our stay, we still got to do long walks on the prom and into town: when it was too wet there are a couple of bus stops close by which bring your straight into town with the result that we left the car parked up in the hotel car park for the entirety of our stay.
In July 2025, we had stayed in the Salthill hotel for 4 nights as a family of 6 plus my wife’s parents had joined us. It was my fifth time staying in the hotel but a first for everyone else. We were hosting a lunch on one of the days for a family group of 22. The weather was beautiful with a pleasant breeze most days, and to be fair having no rain was such a bonus for a stay in Galway. Having the prom and beaches across the road is such a cool part of the hotel's facilities. Our stay was excellent throughout: the rooms were spacious and really comfortable and some of us used the leisure centre every day that we were there. Food was very good, and we had breakfast in the hotel each morning. Staff were excellent and looked after us and our guests with a lovely atmosphere and old school hospitality and efficiency.read moreread lessshannagharte 7/04/2025
Fantastic Hotel and even better staff! We stayed one night at the Salthill Hotel and had the pleasure of meeting Tommie, the breakfast manager, who truly made our visit memorable. We first met him during lunch, where he warmly welcomed us and recommended great spots to check out in the city. The next morning at breakfast, he welcomed us with a big smile and he was just as friendly and helpful, going out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. His kindness and local knowledge really added a special touch to our stay. Thanks, Tommie!read moreread less - Colm McGuinness 8/20/2025
Lovely People Check in was busy so we give extra credit to the friendly and patient way we were dealt with. The room was above standard in terms of size and had a lovely view of Galway Bay. A complimentary tray of treats left in our room and personalised to congratulate us on our wedding anniversary was a lovely surprise. The team at the Salthill Hotel made us feel very special. This a remarkable achievement in such a busy hotel. The Prom restaurant was very convenient and their two course deal was very tasty and great value. The excellent service continued at breakfast. After viewing a few other hotels, the minute we met with Valerie, we knew we weren’t going to be going anywhere else. From the second we met Valerie, she made us feel so welcome and really listened to what our wants for the day were. Her passion for her job shines through at every moment and we got the impression that she really cared about helping us, creating our perfect day. She went through so many things with us that day that we had not even thought about. Her experience in the field is unmatched, she almost doubled up as a wedding planner, keeping us on track at every step and ensuring we were hitting deadlines when we needed to.As well as being a complete and utter professional, above all, she is a genuinely kind and beautiful person. Weddings can be stressful enough to organise but one thing we never had to stress about, was how the salthill hotel would work and look on the day.We then met Stephen at our menu tasting and again, he made us feel so welcome and treated us so well! Stephen and Valerie compliment each other so well and make the perfect team. There is not one thing we can fault the Salthill Hotel on. There was plenty of food and drink at our reception, the service from all staff was brilliant, the food at the meal was exceptional and the place looked amazing.Without a doubt, Salthill Hotels biggest asset is having Valerie and Stephen! We could not recommend them enough and will never be able to thank them both for the role they played in ensuring we had the best day ever.Thank you both so much,Clare Ann and Adrianread moreread lessAmber Fahy 7/11/2025
Lovely weekend I went to a friend's wedding and almost everything was wonderful! We had to change rooms because there was a horrible smell. The reception was perfect but I thought some of the waitresses were a bit slow, maybe because they were very young. I especially want to thank Marco (Polo), lol, for personally welcoming us, he was so kind. I also want to thank Sol from reception and Alan, the porter. He helped us with all our luggage, and he was so lovely and polite. Thank you all!read moreread less - Gerard C 9/09/2025
Everything that we could have wished for. We enjoyed a very pleasing stay in this hotel. There is nothing to fault. Our bedroom was spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The staff (certainly those that we encountered) were courteous and attentive. We had our evening meal from the bar food menu and the options were plentiful and delicious. The choices at breakfast were wide ranging and it would have been almost impossible to leave the hotel hungry.
A shout out in particular to the Reception staff.read moreread lessMarion Lynch 8/17/2025
Wedding weekend! Staff at the Salthill hotel are wonderful. I could not fault any of them. Shane (senior staff, wedding) looked after us very attentively and nothing was a bother to him. I’ve attended plenty of weddings over the past couple of years but the staff here really stand out. They certainly set the standard and would be one reason for me to choose the Salthill hotel for my own wedding one day!read moreread less - Martina F 6/01/2025
Family stay in Salthill This was a short visit to Galway for a family birthday. We (3) had 2 nights in a very spacious bedroom with a lovely clean modern bathroom.
We ate both nights in the bar, fresh seabass and hake the following night. They also do a fab curry and gorgeous Eton mess for dessert.
The staff in this hotel really go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Even under pressure when breakfast is busy.
There are two coffee machines that are self-service so you can get your cappuccino in the morning. They have good selection for breakfast, and will cook your eggs to order.
We were taken great care of by everyone from the minute we arrived.
Would recommend this hotel, only two minutes to the sea also if you like the water!read moreread less - S.Edwards 8/17/2025
Comfy bed, warm room, lack of air con. But would stay again. We stayed for the night, on a short visit to Galway. On arrival, the car park seemed full, we eventually realised there was additional parking underground. Walked into the entrance foyer which we found to be bright, and welcoming. Check in was a breeze, and the reception staff where friendly, there was only one to start but as a que started forming more staff appeared to ensure people where checked in swiftly. Found the room to look a tad dated, but that a personal preference, however the room was clean, tidy and fairly well presented. There is some signs of age with the room. The down sides to the room. The lack of air con, which I suspect my have been down to the room grade, however fans where provided. There where a few signs of age: Wallpaper peeling behind the radiator. Black spots above the laps, probably caused from old incandescent bulbs, (LEDs are now fitted) Chips in the paintwork on the ceiling. There was a distinct lack of plug sockets in the room with there only being a double socket behind the TV, which did have both USB & USB c sockets, and a single socket in a corner near the ceiling. There was an extension lead installed behind the dressing table. Amenities provided: Hair dryer Iron & ironing board Empty Mini fridge Tea & coffee making facilities. Shower gel & shampoo Shower cap Grooming kit, with cotton wool buds, cotton pads and a nail file. Breakfast was lovely, hot food, for a full Irish, pastries, cereal, and even a selection of items off a menu. Over all the staff where polite and friendly. Unfortunately we did not get to use the pool, spa or gym facilities this time. Recommendations for the hotel: 1) install more plug sockets near the TV/ dressing table and near the bed. 2) Ditch the 13 amp extension lead. You provide 3 x 13 amp appliances and only an extension lead to plug into, if someone uses all three at once it could cause a the lead to over heat and start a fire. (Chances of someone using all three at once is slim, but why risk it?) 3) Leadership team should conduct room quality inspections to check for signs of wear and age. Doesn't have to be after every check out but periodically checking to ensure your rooms maintain a satisfactory level of appearance. 4) Better signage for the underground parking. All in all I would stay again, maybe just book a better room next time, for the air con 😅read moreread lessRita A 10/01/2025
