Why It Works
The Salthill Promenade is 33 steps from the hotel entrance. The 401 bus to Galway city centre stops directly outside. Ocean Fitness opens at 6am on weekdays, so you can swim before the city wakes up. On your first evening, the Blackrock Bar is exactly the right place to land after a long drive — sea views, craft beers, and something good to eat. By day two, the Promenade will feel like your own.
The Seaside Escape is available year-round and works equally well as a winter retreat or a summer break. Seaview room upgrades can be added at booking for a genuinely outstanding view of Galway Bay and the Clare Hills.

What to Do on Your Family Break
Day one: check in, head straight to the pool. Children who have been in the car for two hours need water. The 25-metre pool provides it, along with the warmer hydrotherapy pool for younger children. Day two: walk the Promenade to Blackrock, kick the wall, visit Galway Atlantaquaria, and stop at Leisureland for crazy golf. Day three: Connemara, or the Aran Islands by ferry, or simply another day on the beach and in the pool. There is a reason families return to Salthill year after year.

Race Week transforms Galway into something exceptional. The atmosphere in the city — in the pubs, restaurants, and on the streets — builds from opening day on Monday and reaches its peak around Ladies’ Day on Thursday. The fashion, the racing, and the general sense of a city celebrating itself at full volume is an experience that belongs entirely to Galway and to no other place.
After a day at Ballybrit, the Blackrock Bar provides the ideal setting to wind down — sea views, craft beers, and a food menu to soak up the day. The Prom Restaurant is well suited to a proper Race Week dinner. The Romantic Getaway in Practice
Evening one: check in to your Seaview room, open the curtains, look at the bay. Change for dinner in the Prom Restaurant — the room has a different quality at night, with the lights of the Clare coast visible across the water. The kitchen’s focus on locally sourced Irish ingredients means the food is genuinely good rather than generically “fine dining.” After dinner, a walk along the lit Promenade before returning to the hotel is, honestly, one of the best ways to end a day in Galway.
Morning two: an early swim in the 25-metre pool or a morning in the hydrotherapy pool and sauna. Breakfast in the Prom Restaurant. A late morning on the Promenade before a day exploring — Connemara, the Aran Islands, or simply the city itself. Evening: the Blackrock Bar for cocktails as the sun goes down over the bay.
