FAQ

General Questions

What are the check-in and check-out times?

You can check in from 3pm and if your room is available before then we will let you know at reception. Our check-out time is 12pm but you have the option to add a late check out until 2pm when making your booking.

Is there a hotel car park?

Yes, we offer both an overground and underground car park, which is complimentary for our guests. However, please note that we have a reverse parking policy in place. It’s important to be aware that parking is at your own risk, and the hotel cannot be held responsible for any incidents of theft or damage.

Do you have a pool?

Yes, we do, in fact we have two pools available. Our 25-metre pool is perfect for those looking to start/finish their day off with a swim. While on the other hand, if you’re simply looking to relax and unwind during your stay, our 18-metre hydrotherapy pool is just what’s needed!

If you’re planning on bringing your children with you for a swim, under 16s are permitted in the pool until 7pm daily, except on Fridays when they are permitted until 8pm.

Of course, no swim is complete without a jacuzzi, sauna (dry heat) or steam room afterwards. Our thermal suite will ensure you’ll be leaving Salthill Hotel totally relaxed and counting down the days till your return! For more information on the facilities, click here.

Our guests can enjoy complimentary use of Ocean Fitness from 6am-10pm during the week and from 8am-8pm on weekends, however, we are currently operating a first come, first served policy. You do not need to book your swimming pool slot. For more information visit the Ocean Fitness website.

Is breakfast included in your rates?

It’s not included in our rates but can be easily added to your booking for a small additional fee. Breakfast is served from 7-10am during the week and from 7:30am-10:30am on weekends. If you don’t want to be worrying about where to eat during your stay, there’s also the option of choosing our “Dinner, Bed and Breakfast” rate when booking. With this option you can enjoy a 4-course evening meal in our Amber & Prom restaurant or on our outdoor terrace as well as a full Irish buffet breakfast the next morning!

Do you accept group bookings?

We do not accept group bookings online. To enquire about group availability please contact our reservations team on reservations@salthillhotel.com

How far away is the beach?

We’ve had a member of our team count how many steps it took them to get from the hotel entrance to the beach and we can officially say it took…drumroll please….33 steps! It doesn’t get any closer than that! You can also grab a coffee to take with you.

I’m organising our flights to Ireland and wondering what’s the best way to get to the hotel?

You have two options, you can fly into Shannon Airport and get an Expressway bus there to Galway (takes less than 2 hours). However, if your flight gets in very early in the morning you could be hanging around for the first bus until 7:55am (this may change in the future so we suggest checking on the Expressway website yourself). Once you get into Galway (Bus Station), we recommend just getting a taxi directly to the hotel (takes 15-20 minutes).

If you’re flying into Dublin, we recommend getting a train from Heuston Station and taking the scenic route! It goes directly to Galway, takes around 2 hours and 20 minutes and can be booked in advance on the Irish Rail website.

Is there public bus access to the hotel?

Yes, a number of buses regularly go to and from the hotel. If you’ve arrived into Galway via train or bus, you can get the 401 bus nearby (go left when you leave the station and the stop is on the corner, close to Eyre Square Centre) and take it to Salthill Park. You can also take the 401 bus from the Spanish Arch. From the Salthill Park stop, it’s just a 5-10 minute walk along the prom to the hotel.

You can also get the 402 bus from Galway Cathedral to Kingston Road but this is a slightly longer walk to the hotel (13-15 minutes) and sadly you won’t get to enjoy the beautiful prom views.

If you’re looking to go into the city centre during your stay, you can get the 401 bus from just outside the hotel. We’d recommend getting off at the Jury’s Hotel stop as that’s close to everything!

To find the most up to date bus times, we’d suggest downloading the “TFI Real Time Information” app to help minimise your waiting at stops.

How far away is the hotel from the city centre?

If you’re driving from the city centre, it only takes around 9-18 minutes to get to the hotel. If you’re getting the 401 bus from the Spanish Arch, give yourself 20-25 minutes to get to the hotel, while brisk walkers could make it in 40 minutes. For the most part, it’s generally quite quick and easy to get to the hotel, however, the above isn’t taking into account peak traffic times!

What is the cancellation policy?

You can view our complete cancellation policy here.

Is there wheelchair-accessible accommodation?

We do offer a limited number of wheelchair-accessible rooms at the hotel. Please contact our team to check the availability before making a booking.

Are there hair dryers, kettles etc in the room?

Yes, there is! You can find a complete list of facilities for each room type here.

Is the Salthill Hotel pet-friendly?

Only guide or service dogs are permitted in the Salthill Hotel.

Which popular attractions are close to Salthill Hotel?

Salthill prom and beach are on our doorstep. We are also walking distance to Leisure Land (a must-visit spot for families), Galway Atlantaquaria and Seapoint Leisure. It’s a 5-10 minute walk to Salthill Village where you will find a number of excellent cafes, bars and restaurants for you to visit. You can read more on our Attractions page here.

What are some of the property amenities at Salthill Hotel?

We also have a number of suites available if you’re looking for a venue to host a conference, event or business meeting.

I’d like to book some spa treatments (massage, facials) somewhere nearby, do you have any recommendations?

Here are some suggestions you can find not far from the hotel:

Galway Thai Massage – Forster Street

Michelle’s Skin and Beauty Clinic – Westside Business Centre

Purejoy – 18 Mainguard Street

Therapie Clinic – 42 William Street

Beauty Lounge – Corbett Court Shopping Centre

Do you offer a laundry service at the hotel?

Wedding FAQ's

Is there any places near the hotel to take wedding photos?

Yes, the Circle of Life Garden is a beautiful and popular spot to take wedding photos and it’s right beside the hotel (click here to view some recent photos we took of the garden). We’d also recommend the nearby promenade and the Blackrock diving board.

Can we get more than 20 bedrooms at the special rate for our wedding guests?

As we have only 161 bedrooms in the hotel, we can’t offer any more than 20 discounted bedrooms. However you will also get your Bridal Suite, and an additional two bedrooms complimentary on the night of your wedding as well as 20 discounted room rates!

Do you have any day 2 options?

Yes we do have day 2 options. We offer couples day 2 options on Sundays only in Salthill Hotel. Our sister venue in Galway city centre, Queen Street, is available for Saturday day 2 options. We have created an array of menus for day 2 options for both hotels!

Can we stay the night before the wedding?

Couples can of course stay in the hotel the night before the wedding. We offer couples the option to stay the night before and the night after their wedding if they so wish.

Can we get ready here the morning of the wedding?

Yes, of course. If the bridal party is more than 3 people, we recommend using either our Promenade Suite or our Courtyard Suite to get ready in the morning of the wedding as there is more room for electrical appliances such as hair straighteners, curlers and makeup bags!

Can we add things to our package that aren’t already on it?

We have a list of enhancements in our brochure that couples can add to whatever package they are on. If there is something that is not already included in your wedding package, couples can request to add it in!

Can wedding guests use the hotel leisure facilities?

Yes, once the wedding guests are staying in the hotel they can use all the hotel facilities.

What is the closing time for the bar and what time can a band play until?

It’s 12 midnight for both. If you’d like more information about having your wedding at Salthill Hotel, click here.
